Global trade in recent times (2020-2021) has proven to be a difficult storm to navigate through for many companies in a variety of industries. Whether you are looking for a new LED grow light, computer, or even automobile you will quickly learn of shortages and price hikes across the board.
What have the Shortages meant for ChilLED Tech?
During these shortages, ChilLED Tech has been approaching the release of many new products including our 5 channel accessory spectrum boards which we previously teased on our YouTube channel. Many of you expressed your interest and have been eagerly awaiting their release. While we want to release them now and get them into the grower’s hand, we just couldn’t. Many adjustments had to be made to ensure that the product components would be obtainable in reasonable quantities. With that said, these products will soon be releasing and you can expect to see an information dump before the end of this April (2021).
A Talk With ChilLED
In light of these shortages across multiple industries, we’ve posted a video of a 3-way call between Dave, one of our engineers along with Vitaly our founder, and myself, Austin. In this video, we talk about some of the changes Dave and Vitaly have made as well as a variety of different issues not only we face but the rest of the LED industry faces as well as other industries.
One of the most notable points to consider is if you want something whether it be an LED light from us or a new computer you will want to get them as soon as you can and they are available. Many sources are forecasting the chip shortages could last until as late as the end of 2022 or even further; the issue is we as a society do not know how long until the pandemic is over but also how long the supply chains could take to recover.
Another important takeaway we want the community to have is that now is a better time than ever before to become self-sufficient and grow your own foods and medicine. As Vitaly mentions in the video, we have not yet felt the implications of the work interruptions in farming industries. We could potentially be facing a shortage of products that is easily avoidable by starting your own indoor and even outdoor gardening.
In our conversation, we use terms you may not be familiar with. Below is a glossary for some of these terms.
BOM – Bill of materials
A comprehensive inventory of the materials.
Cap – Capacitor
A device that stores electric charge in an electric field.
Mosfet
A metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor used to switch or amplify voltages in circuits.
